Students without journeyman's diploma also eligible to apply
(EUHA/Mainz, 7 April 2020) From 2020, students who have not (yet) completed their journeyman’s examination shall be eligible to apply for the EUHA Sponsorship Award. The jury looks forward to receiving a broad range of papers with high relevance to hearing aid professionals.
From 2020, papers in the field of hearing and the rehabilitation of deficiencies affecting the auditory communication system, and those exhibiting potential for development may be submitted. Another major requirement is that the subject matter can be practically applied by members of the trade of hearing aid acousticians.
The 2020 award competition is intended for students of the Academy of Hearing Aid Acoustics (afh), a university of applied sciences or university who have completed their studies within the past 24 months. For instance, diploma, bachelor, or master theses may be submitted. The journeyman’s examination has been waived as a requirement for application. Eva Keil-Becker, EUHA vice president and chairwoman of the sponsorship award jury, explains: "So as to be able to present a broader range of topics, we have decided to open the sponsorship award for students who have not completed their journeyman’s examination in hearing aid acoustics. It would be a pity if exceptional papers with a high relevance to our industry could not be honoured because the journeyman’s diploma is missing. Of course, papers from students with a journeyman’s examination are still very welcome.”
The EUHA attaches great importance to the auditory applicability of the results found to humans, processes or production methods. Moreover, relevance to hearing aid fitting and to customer service is required. The question if the theses are forward-looking and original will also be taken into account when evaluating the papers submitted. The audiological component will play an important part in the assessment. A courageous approach as well as the ability to develop and convincingly present a subject will be honoured.
Another novelty is the fact that on top of the paper, a two-page abstract and the central statement put in a nutshell are required when applying for the award.
