The Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians (UHA) was founded on 11 September 1960 in Würzburg. For 25 years it was headed by Dr. phil. nat. Werner Pistor, of Eutin, Germany. The "German Hearing Aid Group" (founded in June 1952) and the "Association of German Hearing Aid Traders" (founded in January 1957) continued their tradition by merging into the UHA.
Due to the increasing legislative involvement on the part of the European Union (EU), the General Meeting of the Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians, on 15 October 2003, passed a vote in favour of renaming the organisation "European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians". This will ensure that the interests of its members are efficiently represented in the whole of Europe.
As of 1 September 2016, the German job title of Hörgeräteakustiker was changed to Hörakustiker. On 19 October 2016, the General Meeting of the European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians passed a vote in favour of adapting the name of the organisation to match the new job title, changing the German name to Europäische Union der Hörakustiker e. V.
The statutes of the EUHA state: "The association aims at bringing together hearing aid acousticians, scientists and laymen with an interest in trade-specific and economic issues, who want to take part in specialised further education and vocational training in order to provide the best possible care for persons with impaired hearing."
That means: at all times, we would like to be the best possible partner for people with impaired hearing, supporting their rehabilitation by offering technical devices and high-quality provision of hearing aids.
Further aims include the cultivation of a collective spirit, responsible professional ethos, and our members' professional honour, which is based on a particular Code of Honour.
Under the roof of the EUHA, hearing aid acousticians and scientists co-operate at national and international levels. An active exchange on a high professional level guarantees that you will always be kept up-to-date on the latest developments at home and abroad.
The EUHA funds and organises the annual International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians, which has achieved world-wide reputation. EUHA members can profit from reduced entrance fees for the Congress as well as for other EUHA specialist conferences.
Our predominantly scientific orientation facilitates the solution of specialist problems by assigning them to working parties of specialists, whose results will be highly significant for the overall further development.
Local meetings, technical seminars and regional conferences supplement the specialised scientific Congress, supplying information related to practice and advancing specialised knowledge. Moreover, issues of business management with regard to the area of hearing aid acoustics will be discussed and worked out in this context.
"If you do not go forward, you go backward." This aphorism is more valid today than ever before. Please make use of the wide-ranging opportunities for information and further education offered by the Union for advancing your professional career.
EUHA membership is the best investment into your future.
